After making a life in New York, Silvio and his wife, Catalina, returned to the Massana home in Tuscany when Silvio's mother fell ill in the mid-90s. Signorina Massana had been tending the family vines and selling the grapes off to local negociants. When she passed her son and daughter-in-law decided to take over the family business and bottle their own wine.
From the get go, Catalina wanted to cease using chemicals on the farm. And thus began the conversion to organic farming and natural practices in the cellar, which Silvio rebuilt by hand.
In addition to the Montesecondo Rosso, we're opening Matilde Rosato, a rosé blend of sangiovese & sanforte from Cosimo Maria Masini, a biodynamic producer located on the clay slopes of San Miniato, Tuscany.
There's a great story about the Massana family followed by an interview with Silvio on the Louis/Dressner website. Click Here to check it out.
