Tasting: Salvaged Loire Valley Variety: Romorantin

cheverny.jpg

--
Romorantin is an ancient variety that went all but extinct before François Cazin and a few fellow farmers & producers salvaged some old vines in the Loire Valley. Nervy & high-toned, this grape can error on the acid side. When its showing well, the acid pulls through rich texture & fruit, giving backbone & taut structure.

Today Romorantin is found exclusively in Cour-Cheverny, and Cazin is recognized as one of the appellation's top producers. His wines (in addition to the Cour-Cheverny, we're opening his Cheverny Blanc & Cheverny Rouge) are a ridiculously great value, going for $17 on the shelf. Don’t miss this trip through Salvaged Ancient Vines of the Valley Loire!
