André Ostertag is a pioneer winemaker, ardent environmentalist, and passionate sculptor. He's been practicing biodynamics in Alsace for over 20 years, where he brought viticulture and vinification techniques back from Burgundy. His approach is wholistic and spiritual and I love it. He even - in an act of rejecting traditional AOC law - created his own classification system based on fruit, terroir & weather.
I'm very excited to try Les Vieilles Vignes de Sylvaner, Ostertag's 2016 bottling from 55 year-old vines planted into clay, granite, & gravel soils. And I'm no less excited to get into the tempranillo from the José Pastor portfolio and a funky red blend from the Rheinhessen of Germany.
